Fleming’s

By Brandon

Today is My dads birthday so I went with him and my mom to Fleming’s steakhouse. I guess my dad has been there so many times now that they will make room for him whenever he comes. That’s cool and all, but that just tells me he likes to go to the same place over and over…boring!

so we strut our way in and are immediately seated. the best part of this is the couple that got there before us was being told they had to wait half an hour. I really wanted to scream “Hah!” in their face, but im not THAT much of an asshole.

After we have sat down the starter course is immediately set down in front of us, there’s a cheese spread and some sort of oregano flavored spread. I enjoyed the cheese one alot more and secretly ate it in secret with my secret love the radish.

we then ordered appetizers, I’m a tremendous sucker for french onion soup btw. I’ve made it a couple times myself but its actually kind of a hassle so I haven’t made it since.

my parents got the seafood tower, an assortment of shellfish was theirs for the taking. lobster claws, crab legs, and shrimp. were accompanied by cocktail sauce and a mustard.

before the dinner our wine came, a brunello di montalcino(my favorite type of wine). until about a year ago I was a huge wine person, but for some reason I don’t know I’ve grown out of it. I’m not beyond enjoying the occasional glass however.

It was a wonderfly flavorwed wine, and had a very smooth aftertaste that wasnt bitter at all.

Finally the entree came, I ordered the evenings special that had a bacon wrapper filet mignon, scallops, and seared ahi. Honestly, the moment they told me “shropshire blue cheese aged 20 years” I stopped paying attention and ordered it not knowing the rest. I even asked again, but all I got out of that was “port wine reduction” before i tuned out again. Eventually my plate arrived and it was DELICIOUS. the cheese was amazing and now im tracking some down to order.

my parents brought the fail and got the same thing, but at least it was something good. They chose this massive veal chop that tasted pretty good. I don’t have any excuse for why I took a bad picture of it except that I am lazy.

we rounded out the meal with an absolutely delicious chocolate souffle. For future references this is one of my favorite desserts. on a side not, I was under the impression there was 1 f in souffle until spell check told me I was wrong just now.

another great dining experience has ended for us. Happy Birthday to my dad who is 48 years old today(young I know!). Here’s a picture of him and my mom from tonight, they celebrated their 28th anniversary 2 weeks ago.

Saw that wine photo and for a second thought I was reading the Vinagoth.

48 isn’t young by the way, nor is it old… that’s firmly in middle age. I know, I’m 44. ;)

most of my peers parents are in their 50s so at 48 my parents are relatively young.

I honestly thought id review more wine by now, I sat on the domain for a year before using it and I guess I cut back a lot on alcohol in that time.
